Participation in the Colombian Congress, as is the case in other parts of the world, shows large disparities between men and women.

For creating this design, we took data from the results of the 5 votes that took place between 2002 and 2018. The striped area represents the percentage of men elected versus women in the unpainted area. The consolidated data from those elections show that only 15.16% of those elected in those years were women.

According to data from the Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil, women’s participation in Congress in 2018 was 19.7%, well below the 29.7% average in the Americas region at that time.

The snap is now in place, and the teeth of the zipper, which continue to ascend, reach up to 50% of the total area. With this, we want to represent the goal that will allow for parity representation in the country.

According to UN Women data, the Congress of the Republic 2022-2026 has a total of 295 seats, of which 84 are occupied by women, remaining close to 29% participation but still far from the standard of the Americas region, which in 2022 is at 32.4%
