The triumphs of colombian cycling

We'll tell you how many times Colombian cyclists have reached the podium in one of the three major global road cycling races (Vuelta a España, Giro d'Italia, and Tour de France), from 1985 when Pacho Rodríguez finished third in Vuelta a España to 2019 when Egan Bernal won the Tour de France.

Colombia ranks tenth in the world for the most victories in the major road cycling races. In 1985, they secured their first podium with Pacho Rodríguez’s third-place finish in Vuelta a España, paving the way for other cyclist triumphs, such as Lucho Herrera’s first place in Vuelta a España in 1987.

This successful streak came to an end in 1989 but started anew in 2013 with Rigoberto Urán’s second place in the Giro d’Italia. This included remarkable victories like Nairo Quintana’s first-place finish in Italy in 2014 and in the Vuelta a España in 2016, as well as Egan Bernal’s first place in the Tour de France in 2019.
